Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 23 January Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 507 new Covid-19 cases had been identified. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 137,098 people have been tested positive to Covid-19 and 3,045 people have died from it. At 16:30 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 507 cases:

Mandalay Region reported 154 new cases, i.e. 16,733 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Taungtha (+33), Chan Aye Tharzan (+22 cases) Kyaukse (+16). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,500 cases each.
In Yangon Region, 84 new cases were reported, i.e. 86,682 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Twantay (+10 cases), South Okkalapa (+9), Hmawbi (+7). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,800 cases each.
