Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 22 January Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 425 new Covid-19 cases had been identified. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 136,591 people have been tested positive to Covid-19 and 3,031 people have died from it. At 19:00 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 425 cases:

Mandalay Region reported 151 new cases, i.e. 16,579 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Taungtha (+37), Chan Aye Tharzan (+21 cases) and Maha Aung Myay (+12). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,400 cases each.
In Yangon Region, 86 new cases were reported, i.e. 86,598 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in North Okkalapa (+9 cases), Mingaladon (+6) and Hlaing Thayar (+5). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,800 cases each.
