Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic: 425 More Confirmed Cases on 22 January + regulations updates

At 20:00, the Ministry of Health and Sports (MoHS) reported 425 new cases in the last 24 hours. They were detected out of 17,699 tests, i.e. a positivity rate of 2.4%. 18 more patients died from the disease in the last 24 hours.  

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Myanmar, in March 2020, 136,591 people have been contaminated by Covid-19, and 3,031 have died from it.

On 21 January, the MoHS released a whole set of travel conditions across the country. They have been widely criticized for their complexity and inconsistency. Important Notes.  

1.     All travelers must possess three documents: 

– recommendation letter from Ward Administration 

– recommendation letter from Township Administration 

– health certificate from Township Health Administration Department. 

2.     By anywhere, it means anywhere within Myanmar 

3.     The restrictions to enter Yangon Region are yet to be announced.  

On another note, the MoHS announced that 1.5 million of vaccine doses arrived this afternoon from India. They will be injected to key personnel in February. 

Today, the Yangon authorities announced that public spaces (parks, gardens), will reopen from 21 January onwards, but only from 05:00 hrs to 09:00 hrs, for morning exercise.
