Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 18 January Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 477 new Covid-19 cases had been identified. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 134,795 people have been tested positive to Covid-19 and 2,973 people have died from it. At 18:30 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 477 cases:

For the second day in a row, Mandalay Region ranks higher than Yangon Region, with 130 new cases reported, i.e. 16,079 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Aung Myay Tharzan (+22 cases), Maha Aung Myay (+14 cases) and Pathein Gyi (+13 cases). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,400 cases each.
In Yangon Region, 125 new cases were reported, i.e. 86,219 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Pazuntaung (+18 cases), Dagon Myothit (South) (+13 cases) and Tarmwe (+11 cases). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,800 cases each.
