Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 16 January Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 491 new Covid-19 cases had been identified. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 133,869 people have been tested positive to Covid-19 and 2,942 people have died from it. At 17:30 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 491 cases:

In Yangon Region, 162 new cases were reported, i.e. 85,989 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Hmawbi (+33 cases), Mayangone (+14) and North Okkalapa (+13). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,800 cases each.
In Mandalay Region, 105 new cases were reported, i.e. 15,827 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Chan Mya Tharzi (+17 cases), Aung Myay Tharzan (+15), and Chan Aye Tharzan (+10). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,300 cases each.
