Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 7 January Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 594 new Covid-19 cases had been identified. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 128,772 people have been tested positive to Covid-19 and 2,799 people have died from it. At 18:30 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 594 cases:

In Yangon Region, 252 new cases were reported, i.e. 84,354 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Mingaladon (+22 cases), Thingangyun (+21) and Hlegu (+18). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,700 cases each.    

In Mandalay Region, 105 new cases were reported, i.e. 14,626 cases since March 2020. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Aung Myay Tharzan (+21 cases), Chan Aye Tharzan (+15) and Chan Mya Tharzi (+14). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,300 cases each.
