Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 3 January Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 729 new Covid-19 cases had been identified in 24 hours i.e. 125,971 cases since the beginning of the second wave, on 16 August. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 126,345 people have been contaminated in Myanmar, and a total of 2,728 people have died of Covid-19. At 19:45 hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of 695 out of 729 cases. Further details and clarifications may be provided tomorrow.

In Yangon Region, 224 new cases were reported, i.e. 81,672 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Kamaryut (+65 cases), Mingalardon (+21cases) and Hmawbi (+21 cases). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,500 cases each.
In Mandalay Region, 150 new cases were reported, i.e. 13,367 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Chan Aye Tharzan (+33 cases), Aung Myay Tharzan (+26 cases) and Patheingyi (+24 cases). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,000 cases each.
