Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 30 December Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 587 new Covid-19 cases had been identified in 24 hours, i.e. 123,096 cases since the beginning of the second wave, on 16 August. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 123,470 people have been contaminated in Myanmar, and a total of 2,664 people have died of Covid-19. At 16:00 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 587 cases:

In Yangon Region, 287 new cases were reported, i.e. 81,093 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Hlegu (+30 cases), Mingaladon (+25) and Thingangyun (+21). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,500 cases each.
In Mandalay Region, 68 new cases were reported, i.e. 13,005 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Sintgaing (+9 cases), Chan Mya Tharzi (+7) and Myingyan (+7). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,000 cases each.
A large number of 47 new cases was also reported in Bago Township, Bago Region.
