Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 28 December Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 648 new Covid-19 cases had been identified in 24 hours, i.e. 122,160 cases since the beginning of the second wave, on 16 August. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 122,534 people have been contaminated in Myanmar, and a total of 2,618 people have died of Covid-19. At 16:30 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of those 648 cases:

In Yangon Region, 257 new cases were reported, i.e. 80,554 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Insein (+23 cases), San Chaung (+20) and North Okkalapa (+18). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,200 cases each.
In Mandalay Region, 184 new cases were reported, i.e. 12,789 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Chan Mya Tharzi (+34 cases), Chan Aye Tharzan (+24) and Aung Myay Tharzan (+23). Chan Aye Tharzan, Aung Myay Tharzan and Maha Aung Myay Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 1,500 cases each.
