Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 24 December Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 919 new Covid-19 cases had been identified in 24 hours, i.e. 119,414 cases since the beginning of the second wave, on 16 August. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 119,788 people have been contaminated in Myanmar, and a total of 2,532 people have died of Covid-19. At 17:00 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of the 919 cases:

In Yangon Region, 326 new cases were reported, i.e. 79,536 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Dagon Myothit (South) (+34 cases), Hmawbi (+26) and Hlaing (+26). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,500 cases each.
In Mandalay Region, 234 new cases were reported, i.e. 12,080 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Chan Mya Tharzi (+43 cases), Chan Aye Tharzan (+42) and Aung Myay Tharzan (+31). Chan Aye Tharzan, Maha Aung Myay and Aung Myay Tharzan Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 2,000 cases each.
