
Flash alert – Covid-19 Pandemic in Myanmar: Details of 23 December Cases

Yesterday evening at 20:00 hrs, the MoHS announced that 923 new Covid-19 cases had been identified in 24 hours, i.e. 118,495 casessince the beginning of the secondwave, on 16 August. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 118,869 people have been contaminated in Myanmar, and a total of 2,507 people have died of Covid-19. At 16:00 Hrs today, the MoHS released the spatial breakdown of the 923 cases:

YangonRegion, 392 new cases were reported, i.e. 79,209 casessince 16 August.Yesterday, the main surge took place in Hlegu (+27 cases), North Okkalapa (+25 cases) and South Okkalapa (+22 cases). North Okkalapa and Mingaladon remain the most-affected townships, with more than 5,200 cases each.
In Mandalay Region, 227 new cases were reported, i.e. 11,846 cases since 16 August. Yesterday, the main surge took place in Chan Mya Tharzi (+59 cases), Chan Aye Tharzan (+43 cases) and Aung Myay Tharzan (+38 cases). Chan Aye Tharzan, Maha Aung Myay and Aung Myay Tharzan Townships remain the most-affected areas, with more than 1,500 cases each.
